Trey Ravencrest grew up in southern England where she ate crumpets and had
high-tea with the Queen every Thursday afternoon. At the age of five she discovered
the sport of mushing and harnessed her persian cat and two dwarf rabbits to a
plastic sled. The venture was less than successful (she refuses to speak of it now)
and she quickly saw the appeal of huskies and snow. A brief consultation with her
Snoopy encyclopedias told her that Alaska was the place to go, so twelve years later
she ate her last crumpet, waived goodbye to the Queen, and went.
Unfortunately she arrived in summer, so she left again.
Not much is known of her life for the next six years. Some say she lived in Oregon
with her Alaskan partner, where she wrote secret stories and worked with the murky
depths of computers. Others say she traveled across Europe with a pet squirrel
named Bat and became the Media Editor for the largest magazine published in the
U.K. All that's certain is that she returned to Alaska again and again, fished for
halibut, wrangled moose, lay in powder snow watching the Aurora, until those
photos on postcards became her home. She spent a year working with grizzly bears
in remote Katmai National Park and then turned her focus to mushing.
Currently, you'll find her scooping pup-poop or brushing horses at Muzzy's Place
Kennel. She's learned a lot since the days of harnesses her persian cat to a plastic
sled but she's still new to the mushing world and approaches it with the same kid-like
awe.
She says it's better than crumpets, any day.
